Grouper Fishing Charters in The Gulf of Mexico
The grouper is one of our most popular fish in this region of Florida. Clearwater Florida has a variety of grouper species. The most popular species we fish for are Goliath Grouper, gag, red, and scamp.
Each grouper species in the Gulf of Mexico is subject to a minimum size and a season limit. For more information about GagGrouper Facts, please visit the link or contact us.
Clearwater’s season for grouper fishing varies depending on the time of year. We keep track of all this so that you don’t have to! We’ll keep you informed of what’s in the season by calling or emailing.
All species can be fished year-round. These seasons do not affect charters who want to keep their catch
The Gag Grouper is one of the most popular and easily caught on a day trip. Because of their hard fighting and aggressive strike, these are my favorite fish! They are also the best-eating grouper family members.
They will eat almost anything, but our charter boat uses live pinfish for grouper fishing charters. When grouper fishing, we use heavy tackle and circle hooks to prevent them from grasping your bait and heading to a ledge or rock to cut you off.
Gaga grouper adults eat small to medium-sized fishes, crabs, shrimp, and other seafood. Our Grouper Fishing Charters use mostly live bait, but sometimes we use dead sardines during the winter.
You can catch grouper on fresh-cut baits such as mullet and pinfish. They also like squid and octopus. The best choice is live bait, so we use it on most trips. Live bait such as a pinfish, small gray snapper, or a cigar minnow can draw hard strikes almost as quickly as the bait gets to the bottom. Certain months are excellent for using bucktail and Shimano Butterfly Jigs. The grouper season is very popular so make sure you reserve your deep-sea fishing charters in advance!
