The Basic Issue
"Quality public schools are the foundation for a strong society. Regrettably, Florida remains in the bottom rankings among states for funding schools. In recent years, the state has taken a one-size-fits-all approach to public education that has progressively eaten away at local control and defined success by the results of a single, annual standardized test. Meanwhile, the state has favored giving public money to private schools, which are not held accountable. The next governor should concentrate on strengthening public schools and funding them -- not finding ways to undermine them." (Daytona Beach News-Journal)
