UPDATE by Sinfonian: Over a fine pizza dinner this evening, I told Kenny that I would be glad to draft the list of winners to cross-post between my sucky blog and this one since he was so busy. He readily assented, figuring he would not have time to do so himself.
Obviously, he was wrong.
But if you want a list that is fully hyperlinked for your convenience, well, click here and behold the linky goodness.
(I kid because I love. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

Okay, I will bite my lip on most of these awards. I will only say this …..
CONGRATULATIONS to Blast Off! Radio from The Mark Weaver Show!
2009 Netroots Awards: The Good, the Bad and the Undeserved. http://bit.ly/4CrYjw
As a contributor on the Opinion Matters blog, I want to thank everyone who voted us as Best Local Blog! We’re relatively new to the blogging scene, but the FLORIDA TODAY’s vision in having a citizen-ran editorial blog has paid off! Thanks again!
CONGRATULATIONS to Blast Off! Radio from The Mark Weaver Show!
Thanks, Mark.
Let’s leave Dan Gelber’s “award winning blog”out of the picture for half a second.
I’m wondering how Senator Gelber wins the adoration of the progressive crowd as he continues to Karl Rove the Julia Tuttle Causeway sex offender camp, flaunting the Fear Card like the best of any Bush and then the next moment, getting all misty-eyed over the indignity of it all, likely keeping one eye open for a Miami New Times reporter.
When are others in the FPC planning to call this guy out…or I am the only one who catches him in his blatant distortions?
Not to mention he hangs out with the GOP lobbyist and Chairman of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust Ron Book that helped put these people under the causeway to live in the first place. Do we actually want this guy at the ear of Gelber, should he successfully win the AG seat?
For crying out loud…
Wake. Up.
Are progressives about human rights or just some humans rights?
We can work together for better child protection laws…but to stand by as a group and give this guy a Hall of Fame award for driving people underground?
It’s sickening.
Obviously, he didn’t get an award for “driving people underground.” I know that this is an important issue to you, but that type of claim can’t possibly convince others that you are correct. I think most people don’t understand this issue very well and give it very low priority in the overall panoply of issues we face and way down the list of injustices we have to deal with. Now, all the people that think that may be wrong, but they have to be convinced of that and this type of comment isn’t going to do it.
I imagine it’s a low priority until it effects someone close to you, yet how extremely effective when running for the state’s top cop…the Julia Tuttle will prove to be a huge issue in the campaign for AG and I would predict, in the Senate race as well. Guess that’s about the time people will begin to deal with it and bump it up on the List of Injustices. (At the very minimum, these people are homeless because they’ve been exiled from housing within the community).
Aronberg is at least consistent in his commentary regarding his ideas to better protect children from those who do present a danger. That’s a progressive–someone working from within to address issues with real life solutions, not someone who sticks up a finger to test which way the wind is blowing, as so witnessed by comments made by Gelber during the weekend debate with his Democratic opponent and comments made by Gelber post-camp visit this past summer.
Nothing will become of this issue until we hold politicians responsible and accountable for researched-based solutions. We let them off way too easy with issues that prove distasteful.
I’ll retract my statement about receiving an award for “driving people underground”. But sadly, DG understands this issue and judging by his recent flip-flop, full well realizes its effect on people’s worst fears…
Congratulations to Susan Smith, Netroots Activist of the Year. Thanks you for inspiring us with the courage to stand and speak for what is right!
