A Quick Note to Florida Bloggers

Get ready. It’s coming. The national attention is going to flood Florida like few times in history and like no time since we’ve been blogging as a group. National bloggers are going to ask us for our take on the Senate and gubernatorial races. So will talk shows in other states. And maybe even in other countries. And maybe big-time stations like NPR, Britain’s Sky network and others. It’s happened before on a smaller scale with other things, but we haven’t had a Netroots-oriented election of this size in Florida yet that was focused on Florida. 2008 was focused on Obama. 2006 was too localized to get much attention. Things will be different this time. Be ready. They’re going to ask you about Crist, Rubio, Gelber, Meek, Sink, McCollum, Bronson, Aronberg and maybe some others, depending on how things shake down. Do you know enough to answer their questions?

Yes! Crist may actually be less of a war monger than Dan “Building a Greater Israel” Gelber and Kendrick the Meek. But Crist is the ultimate stand for nothing feckless Vanity Politician.

Alex Sink is a career banker. It’s shocking that the Democrats are going to nominate a banker after what we’re going through. She’s going to be a credible candidate. But it’s classic Democrat — the corporate establishment always shoots the grassroots base in the back.

Dave Aronberg is the only possible bright spot, but I’m not ready to answer any questions about him, yet. All I can say is that Missouri State Senator Jeff Smith, star of “Can Mr. Smith Get to Washington Anymore?” gave Aronberg the thumbs up on the Mark Weaver Show in February.

I look forward to telling Sky TV that the ONLY redeeming thing about Marco Rubio is how cute he is. I swear I get a dreamy look every time I see him on TV. I just block out what he is saying.

I agree that there will be extrordinary focus on Florida’s political landscape.

Every Progressive and Democratic individual will be needed to acheive the goals of changing our State Government with a large infusion of Democrats.

Some of us will be interviewed, those with a good following and something to say will be sought out by media unfamiliar with Florida and the political landscape. Most of us will not.

That being said, we all need to pay close attention to the results from the 2008 elections to ensure that we can understand the demographic changes and use this information to focus our finances and field people to maximize our opportunities.

Statewide races are likely to be the lowest hanging fruit for Democrats in over a decade as evidenced by the Obama victory in 2008 because there is no gerrymandering effect available to the Republicans.

Other areas of Florida, like where I reside in southeast Palm Beach County, have had enough positive demographic change that once solid Republican seats are at grave risk. The time we have remaining until the 2010 Elections gives us time to establish an agressive ground game to work each precinct to the best of our abilities.

On Tuesday May 26 the Democratic Club of Boca Raton and Delray Beach is having it’s monthly meeting. The Agenda includes appearances by State Senators Ted Deutch, Chris Smith, with Representatives Kelly Skidmore, Maria Sachs and Kevin Rader.
They will be there to review the recently concluded Legislative session.

The time is 7:30 PM, the place South County Civic Center 167000 Jog Road, Delray Beach.

Your attendance is welcomed, you will have the opportunity to see, hear, and interact with our elected officials.

No one is required to be a club member, nor join the club to partake in our activities, but, we would love your joining us.

Many of those who attend will be the individuals responsible for organizing our local Zones and Precincts into efficient “GOTV” operations. These individuals are always in need of more volunteers and activists, and the opportunity to continue our Democratic winning streak requires the commitment equal to our 2008 effort in order to achieve these goals.

We all know and understand the power of “Community Organizing” and most of us are thrilled to have a Community Organizer in the White House.

We have experienced winning, those results came from a well run campaign operation that extended down to every neighborhood in the USA.

In Florida, many of us played our part, with whatever energy we have to volunteer. That energy is needed again, the earlier we get ourselves into the process of building these neighborhood volunteer structures, the better the outcome of the 2010 elections.

We need the help of folks that come to this site, I am new here myself and hope this plea hasn’t broken any rules, if I have, accept my apologies.

There is a whole lot to do, in 2009 the Fair District Florida Petition drive needs our help too. It is a great method to put our energy in motion, hone our skills in neighborhood activism and build a force that will take us to victory in 2010.

    Thanks, for bearing with me.

At every political event stand outside with a sign that says “End Gerrymandering – Sign Petitions Here” and have a stack of Fair Districts Petitions for people.
