The which Gators?
Only those of us in Florida can appreciate how truly awful this error on the Washington Post’s part is. To say that calling the University of Florida Gators the “Florida State Gators” (can you say “Seminoles”?) is like calling a team the Dallas Dolphins or the New England Packers, doesn’t do it justice.
Florida State and the University of Florida are bitter rivals, as you would expect two such good teams sharing the same state to be. Mixing up one with the other is just…real bad. I am now questioning all the Post’s reporting. Oh yeah, I already did.
The unforgivable part is that this error remains, as of my nearly 4 p.m. Friday, April 24 press time, still uncorrected. That means it’s been up for nearly 24 hours and counting. Hello Washington Post, is anybody paying attention?

As an FSU grad and fan, I’ll ignore the Gator part and accept the two national championships.
This was an AP error, not the Washington Post.
Actually, it wasn’t the Washington Post that made the error. The Associated Press released the story with that headline and it ran in several online publications with that headline. Knowing the difference between the two teams, Florida newspapers made the correction before posting. Editors at the Washington Post failed to catch the error.
