Ralph Nader for President

Here’s the #1 reason why you should NOT vote for Obama or McCain, and vote for Ralph Nader (preferably), or Cynthia McKinney (Green Party) or Florida Favorite Son Brian Moore (Socialist Party USA). You can hear all the rest on this Saturday’s historic Mark Weaver Show 9-11am.

By supporting Obama you are empowering yet another pandering sycophant shadow conservative-neoliberal Democrat who takes whatever position that he thinks will serve his unbridled ambition to be president with no commitment whatsoever to any strong progressive principles. He is not only dead wrong on most major policy positions (and by extension, all of the micro policies he will be adopting that we will never know about), but it is clear that he cannot offer a clear alternative to the nightmare Republican zeitgeist that has gripped this country for 40 years now and continues to deepen. He is thus incapable of confronting and stopping let alone reversing the fascistic militaristic drift. As long as we keep empowering this thread of American politics, it and the rightward drift will continue. It is time to stop it by the simple logic of withdrawing support from it. Don’t fall for Obama’s charisma and inspiring but meaningless rhetoric. Just look at what he’s proposing. Don’t drink the piture of Kool Aid he has set before you. I am no longer supporting candidates who offer progressive crumbs while echoing most of the rightwing agenda. If the Democratic Party as we we know it loses elections as a result, then so be it. I’m not going to be a part of the sham any more. Besides, there’s something very wrong with the Obama candidacy if he is only three points up in today’s national polls during an incumbent party economic meltdown and the rip tide of one of the most failed presidencies in American history.

The greatest danger of electing Obama is Iran. With Israel’s extremist Likud Party now poised to win the February elections and hell bent on bombing Iran (let alone fueling global terror by expanding the confiscation of Palestinian land and continuing the inhumane seige of Gaza) I am asking the #1 question (of both Obama and McCain) that should have been asked in this sorry campaign but instead has been swept under the filthy rug of America’s media and two party dictatorship: will you publicly warn Israel that if it bombs Iran you will dramatically reduce military aid to it? And will you guarantee the American people, BEFORE THE ELECTION, that you will not join Israel in a war on Iran if it does so and Iran retaliates? There is a grave danger that we are repeating not just 2000, when Bush’s plans for “regime change” in Iraq were incubating, but 1964, when there was nary a clue from LBJ of the great war he was about to launch.

The second great danger of electing Obama are his calls to send two more brigades to Afghanistan and air strikes on Pakistan, whose government just this week demanded the Bush administration halt because the foreign intrusions and civilian casualties are now spreading civil war to that country. The U.S. military is already requesting 20,000 more troops for Afghanistan. This is Vietnam all over again.

I enumerated 16 reasons to oppose Barack Obama on my July 20th show. I’m going to expand on those this Saturday.
