This is our regular feature where every day I do a post with the top 10 blog posts that I think people should read from the previous day. Posts are included here and ranked based on a combination of originality, focus on Florida, length (longer, more thorough analysis is better), quality of writing and impact of the story.
1. Progressive Homeschoolers of Florida – I Can’t Let the Election Unravel…Not This Time: “When you go to vote, do you know what to do if someone tells you you’re not on the list or there’s a problem with your voter registration?”
2. meowmissy – Florida: The case against Pinellas Supervisor of Elections Deborah Clark Hotlist: “Back in September, I did a study on the number of registered voters per early voting site for each county in Florida in which I found that Pinellas County ranks dead last. As it turns out, this isn’t the only problem with Deborah Clark’s record as Supervisor of Elections in Pinellas County.”
3. The Spencerian – A Dispatch From Fake America: “My mother told me not all that long ago that I had never persuaded anyone to vote one way or another with my writing in this blog. Frankly, I was relieved to hear it. Persuading voters was never my motive. Talking about politics — mostly with myself — was, and remains so. I enjoy the few comments I get, and I enjoy answering questions when I can. I always learn something new. But I like politics and I like writing, so this is really a selfish endeavor when it’s all said and done.”
4. Florida Kossacks – Save Sales Tax for Transportation: “You see, there is one other amendment that progressives should consider voting no on. As unlikely as that may seem, that one is Amendment 8, the Local Option Community College Funding amendment. While it might seem counter intuitive for progressives to vote against higher education funding, bear with me while I explain my thinking on this.”
5. Dan Gelber- Guest Blogger Ausley on special needs families: “I wrote this guest blog for Rep. Dan Gelber’s website in September shortly after Governor Palin assured the American people that she would be an advocate for the disability community in the White House. At that time, I looked on the McCain Palin website and found no policy statements relating to disabilities, and I wrote that I hoped that would change. Today, twelve days before the election, Governor Palin delivered a speech in Pennsylvania falsely criticizing Senator Obama’s tax policies and laying out a plan for specials needs families – TWELVE DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION.”
6. Wildwood Preservation Society – Plans For “Mahan Massacre” Withdrawn: “Following a resounding recommendation against approval by The Florida Department of Community Affairs (DCA) the proposed ‘Mahan Massacre’ development has been withdrawn prior to a final vote scheduled tomorrow before the Leon County Commission.”
7. Dan Gelber – John Lewis, McCain 2.0, and my endorsement: “I spoke to the Sarasota Democratic Club tonight. Although I was the featured speaker, civil rights pioneer and actual icon Congressman John Lewis followed my remarks with some of his own. It was the second time in my political life where my remarks preceded his. Knowing what would happen, I asked the audience to please write my name down on a napkin so that they might have some vague memory that I was also in attendance: John Lewis is that powerful a speaker.”
8. Pensito Review – Obama Campaign Encourages Floridians to Vote Early: “This campaign video doesn’t say it, but the Obama campaign is encouraging early voting because it could make the election slightly harder for Republicans to steal.”
9. Daily Kos (mtundu) – Early voting in FL: A love story: “Last week my girlfriend and I were riding our bikes home from the local farmers’ market on a beautiful October afternoon and I popped the question: ‘Will you vote early with me?’”
10. Bark Bark Woof Woof – Robocalls: “I got home the other day from a trip to the store and saw ‘000-000-0000 UNKNOWN CALLER’ on the Caller ID. There was no message on the answering machine, but I knew immediately what it was: a robocall. I didn’t have to wait very long before the phone rang again and the same number came up on the screen.”
