Contact Sticks of Fire Advertisers On Hate Post

Here is a follow up to my post on Rachel Moran wanting to beat homeless people on-camera. Since she is still writing there it is obviously that webmasters Tommy Duncan or Bill Sharpe aren’t bothered by the post. So, they shouldn’t be bothered if people contact their advertisers.

Thanks for posting this stuff, it’s pretty incredible that people are openly saying such hideous things.

    Hi Michael,

I notice you list me here as a “friend and supporter” of Rachel Moran, and I’d just like to say that I feel that you have misrepresented me, and my opinions.

I feel like I was attempting to define my position on the Sticks blog while distancing myself from any notion that I think it’s ok to go around beating on people, and I also noted I never felt Rachel was honestly advocating actually making some documentary. That is was satire, bar talk. I say that because as I mentioned I know the girl in passing and know well several of her friends that she made while at Stetson Law School and none of that is something I seriously thought she’d undertake.

I also posted my thoughts on this entire issue on my personal blog: http://maladrin.blogspot.com/2007/01/aggressive-panhandling-again.html.

This is a complex and very serious issue. I have repeatedly said that I do not advocate beating or in any other way dehumanizing the homeless or needy. I noted how I felt her documentary fantasy was just that. If I really felt that this was some serious plan I would obviously be mortified.

I know the internet can be dangerous to express an opinion on lest it be taken out of context, but I truly hope that one can see my position, and why I defended what I defended. I suppose if you or anyone else is going to call me a hate-mongerer or some hate-mongerer supporter because of how this shook out I can’t change that – but I know how I feel and what I believe and I know that that’s not the case.

    Hi Michael,

I posted a comment here earlier, which appears to have already unfortunately disappeared. I’ll try again. I also commented at Pushing Rope.

I think you’ve misrepresented me in your comment that I’m a “friend and supporter” of Rachel.

I very clearly stated I knew her in passing, but knew some of her fellow students who are still her friends from Stetson. I clearly stated I didn’t think she was serious about filming anything. I also clearly stated I don’t advocate beating anyone up and that her friend Eddie sounded like a dick. The only statement of support I made is that I also agree that aggressive panhandling is a problem and that people could help eliminate it by not encouraging it.

    I left a follow-up on my own blog, http://maladrin.blogspot.com.

I really hope there can be more actual discussion on this issue than lynch-mob forming.

Hi David, your comment didn’t disappear, but was shunted into moderation. I’ve approved it, so you will see it above.

Err … yeah, I noticed that after I tried submitting the second time. I couldn’t read the white text in the yellow block.

Anyway, thanks for letting me clarify my position.

Sorry about the readability issues, David. I’ll remember that when I look into the template files.

I need to update the commenting to use Askimet spam-protection, but I haven’t had the chance. I’ll have to make time to get that done. It would be a big improvement over moderating comments.

Your comments are welcome here. Thanks for your input. Sorry that the clunky system frustrated you.

True, David Jenkins is an acquaintance only. He is hardly a supporter of mine, simply because, well, it’s a blog post, I don’t need “support,” you know?

    Jobsite’s cool. Relax.
