The imagery in the following map is ugly. What the images represent is even uglier: Hate Groups Map – Southern Poverty Law Center
Florida is home to fifty hate groups. The I-4 Corridor seems to be the Neo-Nazi belt, a swath of swastikas adorn the region. The Klan and neo-confederates pepper the state. Racist skinheads and Black Separatists and a host of others are represented here.
Who are your neighbors? How many times has the casual bigotry of a fellow Floridian exposed itself? I’ve known too many people who make little excuse for their blatant racism.
I’m not implying that Florida is full of racists and hate groups. Most of us are reasonable folk who would rather get along with the people around us. But there is no denying the hate exists, right here in our backyards.
Have a look at the map. Imagine that those hatefully ugly icons represent deadly pollution. They actually do.
