So remember how this prolonged primary is supposed to destroy the Democratic Party and give us another 4 years of awful conservative governance? Also recall that because Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have been going at it for the last couple of months, the electorate was supposed to turn away and just automatically vote Republican? And remember how the January 29th primary issue was supposed to sink Florida into deep red territory from all those disenfranchised Democrats?
Well it turns out the traditional media and other bearers of the conventional wisdom are being proved wrong…again:
Clinton beats McCain, 49 percent to 41 percent, in the poll of 1,411 Floridians taken April 23-29. A month ago, Quinnipiac’s poll showed Clinton with a 44-42 lead.
The new poll shows McCain edging Obama, 44-43, among Floridians. That’s within the poll’s 2.6 percent margin of error. The same poll a month ago had McCain thumping Obama, 46-37 percent.
This is all despite the fact that a large chunk of grumpy Clinton supporters have mixed feelings about Obama. And its all despite the fact that neither Clinton or Obama has even visited the state very much in an official campaigning capacity or truly organized here yet.
Update: The same Q-Poll has Bush’s approval rating at 24% (71% disapprove) in our great state. Too bad it isn’t the same for ‘ol brother Jeb.
