Most Florida Democrats I talk to these days are a rather irritated and worrisome bunch. The Jan. 29th fiasco, combined with decent (but not great) Republican poll numbers in the state, and the ongoing presidential primary has almost everyone in a tizzy.
While I want our party to have a nominee soon, I really don’t mind the primary having gone on this long. This whole process has been the best thing that has happened to the Democratic Party in decades in terms of fundraising, party building, and voter registration.
And guess what? Despite the fact that no Democrat has truly campaigned here in the Sunshine State at all over the last year and a half, our numbers are improving right where we need them:
The political landscape is shifting in three Miami-area congressional districts held by powerful Republicans, according to voter registration figures that show Democrats making sizable gains.
According to county and state tallies, the number of registered Republicans in the three districts, while still larger than registered Democrats, has declined since the last congressional election in 2006, while more Democrats have been added to the rolls.
”There is clearly a move toward the Democrats that’s undeniable,” said Democratic strategist Jeff Garcia, who helped convince former Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez to challenge Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart in a matchup viewed as the headliner among the three.
”Clearly something’s happening here,” Garcia said. “There’s tremendous dissatisfaction with the president and congressional leadership and it’s showing up in the numbers.”
The public has simply had enough of Republicans their shenanigans – period. No dustup between Barack and Hillary in some corner of Pennsylvania is really going to move the public in any significant way over the long term – contrary to what our friends in the traditional media may say. The public is ready to turn the corner whether members of the entrenched press, blinded Republicans, or dithered Democrats like it or not.

Amen. Ray, as always, I’m right with you on this. Great piece.
