18 Stories to Read

Okay, finally caught up with all this stuff. Should have regular posts up again tomorrow and then back into the regular routine for next week.

1. 20 Stories to Read — Legislative Watch

2. 21 Stories to Read — Freedom and Equality Version

3. 19 Stories to Read — Congressional Races

4. 12 Stories to Read — The Creationism Bill

5. Flablog – Voucher commmission: “The Tax and Budget, Education, Religion, Life the Universe and Everything Commission may not been done yet. It may not pass much of anything about tax and budget reform, but it just might make another try at putting vouchers for church schools on the ballot.”

6. Tallahassee Leaders Forum – Young Democrat Candidate: “Alan Brock, President of the Florida Young Democrats, is running for the Wakulla County Commission. Make sure to check out his website: www.voteforalan.com. We are really excited about this race, and we wish him well!”

7. Florida Netroots – Kurt Browning’s Fantasy World: “I was forwarded an interesting response to this article: Secretary of state visits Broward elections office, gives Snipes good marks; in which a representative from the Florida Fair Elections Coalition makes it clear that Kurt Browning is clearly living in some form of alternative reality.”

8. Eye on Miami (gimleteye) – Dissolve county government: “In case you haven’t noticed, representative democracy in Florida is turning paler and paler under the weight of special interests that dominate local county commissions and the state legislature. People get half the story, if the story at all.”

9. Eye on Miami (gimleteye) – Salmon fisheries collapse and Florida Bay, too…: “The question for Congresswoman Ileana Ros Lehtinen and Congressman Mario Diaz Balart, who represent the Florida Keys and much of the Everglades: do they even know that Florida Bay is a desert, right now? Do they have a clue as to the economic costs? And why, if they do, aren’t they in front of the media and press asking for relief?”

10. Adam4PD – Public Defenders Help Protect Us All: “Last week I was busy giving talks throughout the area. I spoke at my fundraiser on Bird Key, at a televised ‘debate’ with one of my opponents, Ron Filipkowski, at a candidates forum sponsored by the Democratic Executive Committee, to a Rotary club at El Conquistador in south-west Manatee county, to the North River Democratic Club in Parrish, and to a hundred or so people at the Sarasota Democratic Club. What am I usually talking about?”

11. Eye on Miami (gimleteye) – Question of the day: “Today’s Miami Herald is a breath-taking compendium of how print news has gone off-track: so dependent on real estate advertising that it STILL, in the midst of the worst housing crisis since the Great Depression, does not know how to communicate a coherent vision with its readers.”

12. The Miami Progressive – The New Voting Machines: “Back when I was… 10 or 11, I think… (It would have been around 1980), my folks took me to the Dade County Youth Fair. One of my highlights at the fair was seeing the ‘new’ punch-card voting machines they had there. These ‘new’ punch-card voting machines were replacing the booths into which one would walk, throw the lever to close the curtain, and then pull the toggle to enter your choice on your ballot.”

13. Miami-Dade Dems – Calling all Veterans: “Miami-Dade Democrats have a new sub-organization, the veterans committee. It had its organizational meeting a few weeks ago, and last night a core group met again to discuss next steps. The chair is Lettie J. Bien, a retired Army Reserve colonel and Iraq War veteran, and she’d like to hear from you, especially if you’re a veteran and member of the Democratic Executive Committee. Those who aren’t veterans but want to be active in veterans’ affairs are also welcome to join the committee.”

14. Blast Off! – The importance of being civilly disobedient: “I am now a criminal. Not in the felony sense, but not in the speeding ticket sense either. Today I made the conscious decision to participate in the War Tax Boycott.”

15. Bark Bark Woof Woof – Crist on the List?: “Florida Governor Charlie Crist is being touted by some as a running mate for John McCain.”

Our blog keeps posting more and more often, still not as regular as it should be, but often we have switched from posting daily to posting through out the day…
